Pathogens are microorganisms that can cause disease. In aquariums, pathogens can lead to infections, compromised immune systems, and outbreaks that threaten the health of fish and other inhabitants.
Amoebic gill disease (AGD), Brooklynella, Marine ich, Marine velvet, Perkinsus (pinched mantle disease), pathogenic fungi, Uronema, and more.
Parasites are organisms that live on or inside a host, deriving nutrients at the host’s expense. In aquariums, parasites can infect fish, corals, and invertebrates, causing diseases, stress, and potential mortality if left untreated.
Acropora-eating flatworms, Coral snails, Eye flukes, Fish leach, Fish lice, Gill flukes Gill lice, Hexamita, Montipora-eating flatworms, Myxozoans, Parasitic copepods, Parasitic Monogean flatworms, Roundworms, Trichodina, Turbonilla, Zoanthid-eating nudibranch and more.
Pests are unwanted organisms, such as invasive flatworms, nudibranchs, snails, or algae, that can disrupt the balance of an aquarium. They may compete with other aquarium inhabitants, often leading to stress, damage, or population imbalances in the tank.
Acoel flatworms, Aiptasia, Asterina, Red planaria Vermitid snails, boring bivalves, fire-worms, Bryopsis and nuisance algae, sea-spiders, and more.
Toxic algae are harmful microalgae that produce toxins capable of negatively impacting fish, corals, and other marine life in an aquarium. These algae can cause water quality issues, oxygen depletion, and even poisoning, leading to stress, disease, or mortality among tank inhabitants.
Saxitoxins (STX), Ciguatoxins (CTX), Maitotoxins (MTX), Brevetoxins (BTX), Okadaic Acid (OA), Dinophysistoxins (DTX), Pectenotoxins (PTXs), Cooliatoxins, Palytoxins (PLTX), Hemolytic toxins, Azaspiracids (AZA), Prymnesins, Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and more.
